100 movies: Start of the summer blockbusters

Think Iron Man 2 marks the start of the summer blockbusters, am I right?

Iron Man 2 (03/05/10)
Comic book sequels have a patchy history. For every Dark Knight you’ve got a Silver Surfer. The comic book hero origin story seems to be the easiest thing to do, though taking it further is a little bit more tricky. While Iron Man 2 wasn’t as good or as well put together as the first one, it still was a very enjoyable comic book movie. A lot better than some of the ones that have been released and I think a worthy successor to the first film. There was a point during the film I was beginning to think that the movie was getting a little bit crowded – a lot of heavy hitters all wanting screen time. Think the balance was there. Robert Downey Jr and Gwyneth Paltrow are the best pieces of casting for this movie – I’ve not been a huge fan of Gwyneth pre-Iron Man (Apart from Sliding Doors) but I LOVE her as Pepper Potts! It was strange not to miss Terrence Howard as Rhodes – Don Cheadle was good! Oh and John Slattery as Howard Stark made me giggle inside more than it should have! Him and his little ‘tache.

The beginning of the film was a bit all over the place – well the middle got a bit like that, but it sorted itself out. The action sequences were awesome – just what I wanted out of them. I feel as though I need to see the first film again now.
Rating: 4/5

About Me

My name's Jaina and this is my blog. I've written an awfully ramble-y 'About Me' page where you can read all the sordid details.

Here you'll find my random thoughts on anything I feel like blogging about, but will most likely be finding my updated list of movies I'm watching this year, as I once again try and watch at least 100 movies. Also you'll find my photos of the day.
